Finished Film

Alwaleed Animation has been completed and put it to Dropbox file for marking, however  it is not being shown in blog or Vimeo as I plan to submit this animation for completions and festivals and do not want to pre-show it.

Tutors can view the video through my submitted dropbox

Summative hand in

I have been working on the following projects:

  1. Edinburgh Project
  2. Taught Programme Review (External/Live Project
  3. 10 x10 2017
  4. Al waleed Animation (External/Live Project)
  5. Colorist for Julia Change
  6. Life Drawing
  7. Development and Testing for future projects
  8. Memory Project

This year as well as competing the above projects I have been developing my concepts and honing my skills in anticipation for my final year, using 10 x 10 to test out ideas that I may have and working on skills that I may require at later stages.

I have spent time researching animations and animators and looking at how others artists work and using this to develop my own style.

Project Development

Lighting and style tests.

It was difficult to use paper to develop our water colors on without damaging the paper after using for any length of time and it didn't enable us to shine a light through enough to show our collage.  With this in mind I devised a way of using "Frosted" plastic which showed through enough shadows/shapes from the collage and was good for painting the water colors onto.  (see images below.

using tissue paper torn to create a rouge image of street

Using frosted plastic sheets to paint on

Collage of street put under paintings, however it was found to be lacking in light

We added a light box on to rostrum to give more light shining through to the water colour, it was also considered at this point that keeping the square shapes around watercolors may be a way forward (leaving obvious cut out marks).

Project Development

Looking at design and colour choices for clothing for Muslim within aniamtion.

Al Waheed project development

Working in collaboration having edited our audio and story boarding we decided that we wanted to use collage and watercolor within our animation.

We intended to use the rostrum as our base for working on a layer of  glass using one layer for collage and another layer.

We had discussions around colors with ourselves and had to research this and also discuss with client if there were colors that were unsuitable to use.

Al Waleed Project

Further developing 10 x 10 into film.

I have submitted my 10 by 10 film to client to show that I had been testing ideas (see link below), using geometric shapes and simple collage to suggest movement and story.  I wanted this to have a simple/straightforward look for the target audience which is to be school children.  The client was extremely happy with this test and was keen for me to work on a full animation.

Al Waleed test from 10 x 10

Working with the client, and now in collaboration with another Student (Naomi) we wanted to combine styles which we both felt comfortable with and also progressing the collage that I had already shown to the client.  We have both worked with paint in animation and felt this could work well with the collage and we would do some test which we could send to the client and also work on the dialogue.  (initial dialogue was approximately 60 minutes long).  We had had to digest all of the dialogue/recordings which we had been given to work with and cut this down to a manageable amount of time.

We both worked together to tell a story from the recordings and edit the recordings prior to story boarding and testing.
